Paula Fraile – The Accidental Trace

EL RASTRO INVOLUNTARIO (THE ACCIDENTAL TRACE) – a project that consists of making evident the amount of chewing gum stuck on the floor of all cities in Spain. To put the idea into practice, I will trace paint lines connecting the gum stuck on the floor of different parts of the city, creating random drawings only determined by the gum placement. A study will be made of the places where their density is higher. This project aims to raise awareness and care for the ground we step on, to make evident the “accidental intervention” that we are part of when we throw a piece of gum to the ground through a network of colors, which unites all those acts that we have all discreetly practiced sometime to get rid of a sticky rubber which does not have a special container. In 2016, I had the opportunity to start this project in the city of A Coruña, where it had a great reception. After a year, the paint marks have disappeared, and I would like to continue intervening different cities.
